POSITION SUMMARY:

We seek a Legal Defense Fund Coordinator who will provide administrative support and program coordination to the soon-to-be-launched Repro Legal Defense Fund (LDF), a fund that defrays legal costs for people who are criminalized for allegedly ending their own pregnancies or helping another person do so. This position requires someone who is adept at handling client intake and financial transactions, ideally with experience working within a legal setting. The right person for the job is organized, meticulous about details, and comfortable with communicating in a friendly, professional manner with potential clients, attorneys, consultants, and external stakeholders.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

●     No minimum educational requirement

●     3-4 years administrative and/or program coordination experience required, ideally in a nonprofit or legal setting

●     Experience with handling financial processes preferred

●     Prior paralegal or case management experience a plus

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

●     Manage client intake system and case processing, including data entry and tracking and conflict checking, for the Repro Legal Defense Fund (LDF)

●     Provide timely response to people who contact the LDF

●     Triage requests for funding and offer compassionate communication and support to clients

●     Coordinate required documentation and agreements and payment of approved fees

●     Troubleshoot intake with LDF Director and other LDF staff

●     Co-create LDF materials, including fact sheets, flowcharts, educational videos for community outreach, stakeholders, and funders

●     Research, create, and update internal resources, as well as external-facing resources maintained on the LDF website

●     Plan, support, and organize trainings and events with allies and advocates

●     Conduct outreach to expand the audience for trainings and events or presentations

●     Develop and implement strategies and materials to promote trainings, workshops, and events

●     Support pre- and post-evaluation of convenings/trainings, and ensure capture of information on training invitees and participants

●     Plan program and operational logistics for trainings /events, including registration, booking travel, and preparing materials

OTHER DUTIES:

●     Participate in staff meetings, department meetings, trainings, and retreats.

●     Willingness to participate in internal volunteer committees to help co-create a vibrant, equitable, and collegial work environment.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

●     Commitment to social justice and racial justice/anti-racist principles required

●     Familiarity with reproductive justice framework preferred

●     Familiarity with Google suite and workplace apps including Slack, Google apps.

●     Familiarity with document, project, and CRM and case management software preferred

●     Vision to see beyond the existing criminal legal system.

●     Comfortable with on the job learning and newly developed programs

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:

Report to the Legal Defense Fund Director and work closely with other LDF staff. Partner with Operations and Finance teams as needed. Collaborate with the Repro Legal Helpline and Reproductive Justice Lawyers Network (RJLN).

WORK ENVIRONMENT: If/When/How maintains a virtual office and supports remote working and flexible work days. Reimbursements for co-working spaces and home office equipment and supplies are available. Occasionally, employees may be expected to be available during off-hours and/or to attend events (e.g., conferences, staff retreats) on nights or weekends.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Most work will be done at a computer. Requires typing and participating in meetings (live and virtual). Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these and other essential functions. 

TRAVEL: Travel is suspended until further notice due to COVID-19. Typically, some travel (once every few months) within the continental U.S. may be required. Additional travel will be required to support teamwork and attend staff retreats, conferences, and professional development opportunities.
