Curriculum Associate 🔥


 iCivics seeks a skilled and team-oriented Curriculum Associate. This individual will work with the Curriculum Team to grow andmaintain iCivics’ leading library of civic education curriculum. The Curriculum Associate will be responsible for conceptualizing and developing educational curricula at the elementary and middle school levels. This person will also act as a customer liaison and bridge for iCivics users and the iCivics Technology Team. To thrive in this demanding position, you must be able to think in both big and detail-oriented ways, successfully deliver across shifting priorities, and possess a unique ability to create and manage multiple systems at once.

We seek a highly motivated, energetic, and knowledgeable individual to lead the many components of this role, including:

  • Support curriculum development needs and state- or project-specific initiatives.
  • Develop effective and engaging, standards-aligned civics lessons from conception to completion
  • Develop effective and engaging, standards-aligned civics lessons from conception to completion
  • Engage with a dynamic team of curriculum writers in the research, planning, and review of resources to advance racial equity and inclusion in the field of civics
  • Apply culturally relevant considerations to iCivics products
  • Be responsible for developing layouts for lessons and student activities using InDesign and Adobe Creative Suite software
  • Manage a student advisory board to amplify student voice and input ensuring the relevancy of student-facing materials
  • Perform routine updates and edits to content management
  • Act as an intermediary between users (who often have little understanding of tech) and the iCivics Tech Team (who often speak in more technical terms).
  • Manage the iCivics Help Desk
  • Respond to and assess user requests, recognizing patterns of user errors and suggesting fixes as needed
  • Communicate with the Tech Team about user reported bugs and site management
  • Provide friendly and timely customer service
  • Represent iCivics as a champion for teachers, students, civics, and active learning strategies
  • Participate in conferences on iCivics’ behalf
  • Hold webinars and trainings to promote iCivics and civic education best practices

This is a multifaceted role centered on supporting the development of iCivics’ growing curriculum line and accessibility on our site. The position offers plenty of opportunity for growth and expansion, and we anticipate that job responsibilities will evolve with the individual over time. This position reports to iCivics Director of Curriculum & Content.

Job responsibilities may also include assignments such as:

  • When it is safe to do so, ability to complete some travel as needed
  • Available to organize and attend events and meetings outside traditional work hours
  • Collaborate across all iCivics work, as appropriate
  • Other duties as they arise

Qualities:

  • Ability to collaborate as a member of the iCivics team
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively across departments
  • Capacity to think both strategically and operationally by being able to identify solutions to issues and implement a thoughtful process to put the solution in place
  • Well-organized and self-motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Capacity to adapt to quickly evolving priorities and respond with grace in a fast-paced environment

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of teaching experience preferred at the elementary and middle school levels
  • Broad knowledge of educational pedagogy, interests in civics and government is a plus
  • Demonstrated skill in applying culturally relevant teaching considerations
  • Understanding of the role race, gender, and other identities play in shaping education and civics as a whole
  • Excellent proven written and verbal communication skills
  • Solid Internet research skills
  • Ability to quickly problem solve, answer source, and achieve expert-level familiarity with new resources and tools
  • Experience with Google Suite and Adobe Creative Suite a plus
  • Intimate knowledge of how Indigenous, Black, Latinx, and Asian histories—as well as the narratives of other traditionally underrepresented groups—intersect with American government and history is a plus

Location: Flexible – iCivics’ headquarters is located in Boston, but with approval the Curriculum Associate could work in another location.
