Staff Accountant


Family Services of the Merrimack Valley (FSMV) is seeking a Staff Accountant that will be responsible for federal, state and local contract billing. The person in this role will also work closely with internal and external Program Directors in tracking expenditures against contract budges. This work requires a high degree of competence in the comprehension of the funding structure of the Agency and appropriate allocation of costs and will report to the Chief Financial Officer.

DUTIES INCLUDE

·       Prepare monthly/quarterly billings for state, federal and local reimbursement contracts, Employee Assistance Program contracts and other miscellaneous contract billings.

·       Track, analyze and review expenditures to ensure expenditure control.

·       Preparation of the monthly financial reports for Program Directors and CFO.

·       Assist internal Program Directors with budget analysis and revisions.

·       Prepare and submit invoices and grant drawdown requests.

·       Enter monthly invoice amounts into the accounting system.

·       Reconcile monthly bank checking account.

·       Access online bank account data and complete daily cash sheets.

·       Enter cash receipts into Accounts Receivable and cash receipts accounting modules.

·       Deposit checks into bank scanner machine.

·       Assist in the preparation of Agency annual audit including required schedules for the 990 and Form PC.


QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:

·       Minimum of and Associate’s degree in Accounting with 3-5 years’ of experience or a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with at least 2 years of experience. Experience with non-profit accounting is highly desirable.

·       Familiarity with federal and state billing systems.

·       Proficiency in Microsoft Office products including Excel database with the ability to learn new software applications.

·       Proficiency in computerized cost accounting systems.

·       Knowledge of cost center allocations.

·       Proficiency with BlackBaud accounting software is highly desirable.

·       Ability to analyze financial information and make recommendations for effective and efficient operations.

·       Ability to appropriately prioritize and multi-task.

·       Detail and deadline-oriented.

·       Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·       Ability to successfully collaborate with others including all in Finance department as well as Agency Program Directors and federal and state Contract Managers.

  • Responsible individual capable of working independently as well as within a team structure.

Desired Qualifications:

·       Ability to educate individuals with limited financial background on agency and industry practices and standards.

·       Demonstrate cultural competence with an ability to work with diverse populations within the community and with agency staff members.
