About College & Community Fellowship

For 20 years, CCF has worked at the intersection of racial equity, criminal legal reform, economic justice, and community building. We are one of the first organizations to focus on access to higher education for justice-involved women. CCF's programs address individual, institutional, and systemic change through our three main program areas: College & Career, Technical Assistance, and Policy & Advocacy.

Job Summary/Duties & Responsibilities

We are seeking a temporary Administrative Coordinator with a strong project management background who can act as a temporary full-time employee beginning immediately and working until June 30, 2021. This is ideal for someone with an interest in criminal justice reform to learn more as they apply their established skills. There is a heavy focus on administrative duties but opportunities to do varying projects that emerge in Policy & Advocacy, such as participate in meetings with State legislators.

The Administrative Coordinator must have exceptional attention to detail. The primary focus will be working on the TurnonTheTAPNY (TAP) campaign, but the Administrative Coordinator may support other Policy & Advocacy campaigns and programs. TurnOnTheTAPNY is a NY-based coalition working to restore access to needs-based financial assistance for people in prison so that they may obtain higher education. CCF worked to restore Pell grants on the Federal level after a 20+ year ban, but robust college-in-prison requires a mix of federal and state funding. NY remains behind. This campaign moves quickly and involves dozens of stakeholders in philanthropy, advocacy, nonprofit, and government, and includes formerly incarcerated people unaffiliated with institutions in its advocacy. The legislative session ends June 10.

For more information on the TurnonTheTAPNY campaign please see: https://www.turnonthetapny.org/

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Schedule legislative meetings with representatives that have not co-sponsored the bill that turns on the TAP - S4464/A2322.
  • Assist in planning and implementing a virtual symposium to drive public interest in the issue.
  • Help roll out trainings for advocates to mobilize digitally.
  • Monitor upcoming hearings from the Higher Education Committee and Ways, means and Finance or any legislative committee pushing for the passage of TAP.
  • Monitor the landscape in NYS and news articles that may be important to the campaign
  • Create a survey, questionnaire and/or follow-up with calls and emails to expand our TAP advocacy community.
  • Contact different organizations and entities providing higher-ed in prison in NYS so that CCF can present on the benefits, cost-savings and implementation of TAP and how pedagogy can include an academic learning bridging rhetoric and community learning.
  • Prepare and modify materials related to the TAP campaign.
  • Clean up existing contact lists and entering new contact information and follow up tracking into data systems
  • Support scheduling and stipend processing for participants in CCF’s advocate training program, WISH (Women Influencing Systems & History)
  • Assist with the tracking and submission of information for report to CCF management, funders, and lobbying compliance regulators.
  • Participate in advocacy meetings pushing for college behind bars (not needed, but if desired)
  • Assist in our work on getting justice-impacted people to the polls (Justice Votes) and our advocacy training Women Influencing Systems & History (WISH)
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Core Competencies/Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational skills are most critical.
  •  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  •  Demonstrated competency with Microsoft Office applications, social media, and data information systems.
  •  Minimum Associate’s degree or its equivalent in college credits.
  • Previous work on a campaign is not required.

Salary:

Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Excellent benefit package.

CCF is an EEOC employer. Persons with criminal justice histories are encouraged to apply.
