Coordinator, Midwest Fresh Food Program 🔥

Background

The Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) is the premier national nonprofit transforming the food supply in pursuit of health equity. Founded in 2010 in coordination with Former First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! Initiative, PHA seeks partnerships that have the greatest impact on reducing health disparities and develops evidence-based, scalable approaches that drive equity-focused, systemic changes across entire sectors. Over ten years, we have partnered with more than 250 corporations, convenience store chains, hospitals, early childhood education centers, food banks, and SNAP-Ed implementing agencies, among others, in pursuit of our vision that all children grow up healthy and free from obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and other chronic conditions.

PHA met the challenging moment of the COVID-19 pandemic by creating the Fresh Food Program. Launched in May 2020, the Fresh Food Program provides families with twelve-weeks of fruits and vegetables, kickstarting healthy habits, while laying the groundwork for sustainable, long-term access to affordable, nutritious foods. Over the past year, it has touched the lives of thousands of families across three cities.

Your Role

Do you get energy from working with partners to implement impactful programs? Are you looking to create transformational change that improves the health of low-income communities across the midwest? PHA is looking for a passionate individual to increase good food access across the midwest over a one-year period. You will use your strong interpersonal skills and ability to work quickly with strong attention to detail to rapidly expand PHA’s COVID-19 Fresh Food Program to more than 20 midwestern cities, and almost 20,000 families.

You will report to the Manager, Partnerships, and join a highly motivated PHA team that is based across the country, drawing from their own personal experiences as well as professional and academic expertise to drive food systems change. We value people who bring their own life experiences to their work and recognize that the ways you may have experienced economic, racial, or gender injustice drive your passion for change.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Alongside the Manager, Partnerships, support identification, recruitment, and relationships management of local coordinating partners - schools, housing facilities, and community-based organizations- across more than 20 cities.
  • Identify, secure, and manage relationships with food distribution fulfillment partners, ensuring high-quality food, packaging, and delivery; troubleshooting; and verifying weekly invoices.
  • Ensure strict adherence to program budget and policies and procedures in weekly food distributions.
  • Work with local coordinating partners to collect information documenting distributions and impact for use on PHA’s website and social media.
  • Support pre-and-post program surveying, ensuring a minimum threshold of respondents reached.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree desired; 3-4 years of applicable experience can substitute for degree.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, including the ability to plan, coordinate and prioritize multiple projects autonomously under tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to clearly, effectively, and professionally communicate with partner prospects and contacts.
  • Results-orientation and problem-solving skills, able to identify and overcome challenges independently.
  • Passion for PHA’s work reimagining hunger relief efforts and transforming the food system in pursuit of health equity.
  • Experience or working knowledge of community based organizations, large scale distributors, and record keeping a plus.
