Temporary Grant Writer

TNTP seeks a part-time Temporary Grant Writer to work up to 25 hours a week, supporting teams across the organization. This position may be based in a home office anywhere in the U.S.

Who We Are

A national nonprofit founded by teachers, TNTP believes our nation’s public schools can offer all children an excellent education. Today we’re a diverse team from a wide range of fields, united by a fierce commitment to helping school systems end educational inequality. We work at every level of the public education system to attract and train talented teachers and school leaders, ensure rigorous and engaging classrooms, and create environments that prioritize great teaching and accelerate student learning.

At TNTP, business development means strategically identifying and pursuing opportunities that will allow our organization to help as many students as possible get the education they deserve. In this role, you will partner with and support staff across our organization to design and write competitive federal grant applications.

We are currently seeking individuals to join TNTP’s temporary pool to fill temporary roles across the organization. TNTP Temp candidates will provide additional capacity to complete priority projects or provide coverage during staff transitions and leaves. Candidates who are selected to be part of the pool will be contacted when assignments that match their skills, abilities, and experience become available. Assignments will vary in length with most lasting between 2 weeks and 3-4 months, and work through the TNTP Temps pool is not guaranteed.

What you’ll do

As a Temporary Grant Writer, you will help position TNTP to secure new work through discretionary grant programs. TNTP has leveraged federal grant funding over the past 20 years to develop innovative projects and programs with school districts around the country mostly focused on teacher and school leader development.

Specific responsibilities may include:

  • Drafting grant narratives that speak to the significance and design for a proposed project and that incorporate research and data;
  • Collaborating with TNTP staff from multiple teams as well as our partner school districts (in some cases) on communicating project design;
  • Coordinating reviews/final sign-off on the grant narrative. Note: There will be additional support from TNTP staff on evaluation design (if applicable) and for project management of the full application.

What you bring

We are looking for amazing people who have diverse backgrounds and experiences, are inspired by our mission, and are highly motivated to change children’s lives through education. You’ll be right at home here if you learn from failure and overcome adversity, cultivate strong relationships, understand the power of diversity, advocate for equity, aspire to lead through inclusion, and push yourself, your work, and the people around you to the next level.

We expect our Grant Writers to:

  • Have at least two years of grant or proposal writing experience; experience with federal grants preferred, but not required;
  • Demonstrate excellent written communication skills with a track record of communicating effectively with diverse audiences;
  • Give extraordinary attention to detail and have a commitment to producing consistently high-quality work;
  • Be flexible in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment of rapidly changing priorities and tight deadlines and turnaround times;
  • Be able to work effectively with others at all levels of an organization, manage up, and consistently display a high level of professionalism in all interactions;
  • Experience with K-12 education sector is highly preferred, but not required.
