Research Associate
Diaspora Rising is a media and advocacy hub dedicated to strengthening the bonds
amongst members of the global Black family. More than a hub, DR aims to serve as a support
to 21st century Pan Africanist movements, using the latest digital technology to facilitate
connectivity and exchange.
The Role
Diaspora Rising is looking to hire a dependable Research Associate to support the organization’s advocacy work on issues relevant to the Global Black Diaspora. The Research Associate will conduct in-depth research on a broad array of issue areas including economic justice, climate change, electoral politics, democracy, security, immigration, and other issues of concern to the African Diaspora and the African continent. The Research Associate will be able to respond to research questions, investigate issues areas, and produce documents in a timely fashion to support Diaspora Rising’s educational, advocacy, and amplification efforts. The ideal candidate will have some knowledge and experience researching and writing on issues related to Africa and the Diaspora and be comfortable engaging in research relevant to Africa and the Diaspora.Â
The Associate will play a leading role in setting research and publication priorities in conjunction with the Managing Director and delivering on targets; coordinating the research workflow; and maintaining high standards across all research and publications.
The Research Associate will
- Conduct research on specific topics to produce in-depth analytical research memos
- Contributing to internal and external publications such as research reports, Op-Eds, Academic articles, and white papers
- Overseeing the planning and research for high-level events, including private working groups and large public events
- Other related job duties as required
Basic Qualifications
- A minimum of 3-5 years related work experience performing research (quantitative or qualitative) required
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited university is required
- Significant knowledge of, and interest in, current issues of concern for the Global Black Diaspora and Africa.Â
- Significant knowledge on issues of economic development, migration, agriculture, trade, international affairs, climate change, and political science
- Exceptional writing skills, and demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision under tight deadlines
Additional Desired Qualifications
-  Master’s degree in public administration, public policy, political science, international relations, or a closely related field is ideal.
- Prior experience in an academic or think-tank setting and/or working for a senior principal (public or private sector) is a plus.
- Candidates should be mature self-starters with sound judgment; have the capacity to work with a wide range of individuals and and have the ability to manage a variety of tasks/research projects simultaneously.
- Language skills in any African language, French, Spanish and/or Portuguese, is a plus
